A high quality worm-drive gearbox that is compact, mates directly to a Nema 17 motor, and is affordable!
The ExoSlide worm-drive gearbox is ideal for Z drive applications, where GT2 belts can be used on the Z axis. A worm-drive gearbox offers the following advantages over lead-screws:
Tall Z heights easily accomplished with a belt.
Can alleviate Z banding from wobbly or over-constrained lead screws.
No back drive design, so Z height won’t change when the motor is powered off.
The gear ratio is 30:1 (30 turns input for 1 turn output), which when paired with a GT2 30t pulley, has the same ratio as a TR8 lead screw with 2mm pitch and 1 starts (1600 steps/mm using 16 microsteps). The output D shaft is 5mm, the same as the Nema 17 output shaft.
Note: Not a zero-backlash design; intended for applications with gravity loading (i.e. Z belts)
